1. Acceptance of Terms

By using butbetter, you agree to these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

2. Service Description

butbetter is a text rewriting tool that helps improve spelling, grammar, and tone. The service uses OpenAI's API to process your text.

3. Fair Use Policy

To ensure a quality experience for all users, the following limits apply:

• Rate limit: Maximum 10 requests per minute
• Free tier: 20 rewrites per day (up to 500 characters each)
• Unlimited tier: Unlimited rewrites (up to 5,000 characters each)

4. Anti-Abuse Protection

Exceeding the rate limit triggers progressive temporary bans to prevent abuse:

• 1st offense: 1 minute ban
• 2nd offense: 5 minute ban
• 3rd offense: 10 minute ban
• 4th offense: 30 minute ban
• 5th offense: 1 hour ban
• 6th offense: 24 hour ban
• 7th+ offense: Permanent ban

Bans reset after 30 days of no violations. Automated usage (bots, scripts) without prior permission is prohibited and may result in immediate permanent ban.

5. Privacy

Your text is sent to OpenAI's API for processing but is not stored on our servers. OpenAI may process your data according to their policies. Read OpenAI's Privacy Policy.

We collect anonymous usage statistics (request counts, error rates) to improve the service. No personally identifiable information is stored.

6. Subscriptions & Refunds

Unlimited subscriptions are billed monthly or yearly. You may cancel anytime from your Stripe customer portal. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis — contact paul@butbetterapp.com if you have issues.

7. Disclaimer

butbetter is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not responsible for any errors, omissions, or consequences arising from the use of the rewritten text.

8. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of butbetter constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
